The Everyday Look

Keeping up with classes is hard enough without the extracurriculars, internship applications, part-time jobs and the process of maintaining a social life. With the mess that is sometimes college, it’s kind of hard not to look like a mess sometimes as well.

With the spring season coming up along with floral fashion trends and light colors, you’ll want your face to look bright and refreshed. Alongside all of this, you may not have the greatest budget to be able to splurge on high-end makeup so finding a good look-alike is a necessity. Through my own research, I’ve figured out the perfect makeup routine that’s simple and affordable for an everyday college look.

Make sure your skin is moisturized so your skin doesn’t become dry before applying any makeup. I personally like to use the Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion.

Then apply a BB Cream as a base. BB Cream is more lightweight than foundation, so it works out really well in terms of not looking or feeling heavy on the skin. Also, BB creams usually have SPF in them, which is great for protecting your skin. I like using the bareMinerals’ Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrated Gel Cream (28.00), but if that’s a little pricey for me at the time, I’ll opt for the Maybelline Dream Fresh Cream 8-In-1 Skin Perfector ($8.99). Smooth the BB cream over your entire face using a makeup sponge, foundation brush or your fingertips.

Apply concealer in the places that needs brightening, such as under the eyes,  bridge of the nose, forehead and chin.

Blend the concealer in with a makeup sponge (the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, $6.99, is amazing) or with a concealer brush.  The Maybelline Fit Me Concealer ($6.99) is probably one of the best drugstore concealers out there.

You then want to set all the concealer with a powder so it stays in place all day without creasing. The powder from the Maybelline Fit Me collection ($7.99) works very well for this.

Last but not least, for a little pop of color, add some bronzer or blush to your cheeks. The NYX Cosmetics HD Blush ($6.99) works great for this, and I’ve also heard great things about the Milani Cosmetics Baked Blush ($8), especially in the shade Luminoso. If you want a bit of a glow, you can highlight your cheekbones with some of Colourpop’s Pearlized Highlighter ($8). It is affordable and is not too sparkly, which is perfect for an everyday routine.

Top it all off with some mascara to complete the look! A great yet cheaper mascara is the L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara ($9.99). If you really want your makeup to last all day, try finishing it off with a setting spray, such as the Milani Make It Last Setting Spray ($10).

And that’s it! A quick beauty routine that won’t be too costly, won’t take too long in the morning and will keep your face looking radiant for the rest of the day.
