When Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland hits theaters in March, you may feel like you've already become acquainted with a few of the characters. Designers this spring took a cue from the classic story and incorporated an outlandish element of fantasy into their collections. Be demure like Alice in girly dresses and bright florals, or bold like the Queen of Hearts in over the top red prints and silhouettes that make a statement. Isaac Mizrahi topped many of his looks with top hats, but to keep from looking too Mad, make sure your men's wear pieces have feminine details. This season is also full of psychedelic prints in bright colors that will make your look fit for a daydream. Don't hesitate to mix your patterns, as long as you keep them the same size and color family. These imaginative looks are the perfect way to welcome spring and put yourself in a carefree mood.

I once read an article in Cosmopolitan that guys find it sexy when a girl wears a scent that is similar to theirs. In other words, when a girl coats the back of her neck and wrists with men's cologne. I'm not sure if I'd borrow that from a boyfriend, since I'm not trying to smell like Abercrombie's Fierce, but I wouldn't mind stealing some items from his closet...
This year us girls have managed to keep looking feminine despite the fact that we've dug somewhere besides our own closets. We thought outside the box and took inspiration from our fellow guys. Designers got in on the action too taking it a step further with items like harem pants and leather jackets that are bad to the bone and borrowed from the boys.
BOYFRIEND BLAZER
Image: urbanoutfitters.com Who said a blazer was meant for suits? The boyfriend blazer is a casual twist on a professional key piece in anyone's wardrobe. What makes the boyfriend blazer so appealing is its laid back fit and its contrasting dressy look that classes up an otherwise boring ensemble.
BOYFRIEND-FIT DENIM
Ralph Lauren Spring 2010 RTW image: style.com Alright, tight jeans do emphasize our assets and are bought for the sole reason of making out legs look long and lean. But, sometimes the tightest things aren't the most comfortable. Although jeans are our daily bottom of choice, we can't help but wish our legs had some breathing room. Boyfriend fit jeans give us that loose fit we secretly crave, yet look somewhat neater and fashionable than gym sweats.
LEATHER JACKETS AND BIKER BOOTS
Image lindsaylohandead.com James Dean, the Fonz, John Travolta, and now you rock the classic leather jacket. It has a sharp shape, tailored trim, and bad vibe. Combine it with a romantic dress and offset typical girly style. Guys on motorcycles, look out because we rock it better than you ever could. As for the boots, mid calf to over the knee is the height we aim for. No heels takes things down a notch and eliminates all signs of femininity from the shoe. Buckles and studs only make this look hard and merciless. Own the road, ladies.
HAREM PANTS
Blumarine Spring 2009 RTW image from vogue.co.uk MC Hammer gets the credit for this one. Although his single tells us we "Can't Touch This," we couldn't help but ignore his words and get our hands, or should I say legs, on this distinctive pant. Almost like a trouser, we are given some chic, simple tailoring, but the silhouette is certainly unique. Guys can get away with wearing loose fitting pants, so why can't we? Harem pants were the answer in 2009. Combined with a cropped blazer, a tucked in blouse, and statement belt, you've got yourself a perfect harem-pant-centered look. Don't worry boys; maybe designers will create more options for you as well in 2010...

Do you ever find yourself feeling a burst of energy at the sight of your favorite yellow shirt, or maybe just downright hot in that little black dress you just bought? Changing how we feel mentally and physically, color can have a profound effect on ones' mood. There are modern theories on color's affect on mood, but the Ancient Egyptians were the first to find that color and colored light were used to heal.
Blue is said to represent peace, confidence and tranquility. It is said to help slow the pulse rate, lower body temperature, and even suppress appetite! Black exudes sophistication, elegance and sensuality; hence why we all love our little black dresses! Green is linked to health, vigor and envy. It is also thought to have a soothing quality and great healing powers. Red is associated with love, danger, desire and speed and is said to raise blood pressure and make our hearts beat faster. Yellow is known to represent joy, happiness and optimism.
So next time you are browsing through your closet will you choose blue for a more confident look? Maybe black to show how sophisticated you are? Or maybe even red to get those hearts beating faster?

You've finally finished your holiday shopping, and are relaxing while looking forward to celebrating New Years, but now's the time to get those designer pieces at a fraction of the cost (thank you post holiday sales!). Take a cue from Mrs. Tom Cruise, and use those gift cards you got to invest in a trench coat for Spring (hopefully on sale!).
Designers like Marc Jacobs (below) are taking this simple, timeless jacket and making it into a memorable work of art. Chic and cropped, flourished in ruffles, padded and pinched on the shoulders, or distinguished with an unusual belt, the trench is transitioning into a less formal item, and more into a daily essential that you can wear to work or a party.
Look for colors besides black and gray to show that this coat is for Spring, a time when we're getting out of our desolate winter and emerging into a warmer, more colorful time of year. Try finding a coat that is unique in its personality; maybe it has asymmetrical lapels, or strange buttons that you can't keep your eyes off of, or even buckles on sleeves or a belt.

2009 was a year of many memorable red carpet looks, but here we'll just showcase the ones that stood out in a good way. From movie premieres, to music launches, to the good ol'Oscars, it certainly was year of style on the red carpet. With so many looks to choose from we managed to narrow the field down to the Top 5 celebrity looks. They were chosen because of their popularity, audience appeal and stand out individual style. Not everyone can pull off fashion's latest and craziest trends, but these stars certainly did and for that we honor them.
First up we have the lovely Emma Watson dressed to the nines for her appearance on David Letterman. Emma has graduated from little Hermione Granger to full grown superstar in this classy and chic ensemble. This dress, by 3.1 Phillip Lim, is a perfect example of several popular 2009 trends including see through apparel and piping accents. Emma manages to pull the look off so gracefully with sky high gold platform pumps and slick sophisticated hair. We are looking forward to see what she pulls out of her magic hat next year!
This year would have been nothing without the spunky fashion daredevil Rihanna. Besides the infamous breakup in the beginning of '09, Rihanna has also managed to make headlines through her crazy fashion choices. Known for taking risks and succeeding in the process, she did so in this gold spiked dress by The Blondes. Everything from her coordinating spiked heels to her red lips and cool sunglasses equals rock star.
Even though G.I Joe Rise of Cobra didn't quite rise to the occasion, its star Sienna Miller made high waves during its promotional tour. Sienna truly has an eye for style with this Diane Von Furstenberg yellow and black printed mini. Paired with thick tights and black suede fringe booties, Sienna manages to look like she could do this in her sleep. Unlike most celebs who seem to try so hard on the red carpet, Ms. Miller's look is simple yet smartly styled. Even her windswept hair adds something unique to the down to earth outfit. Kudos for being yourself Sienna! Of course this segment would be nothing without the style sisters themselves, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Even though most people can't tell them apart, these twins both have two distinct ways of dressing, as showcased in this red carpet photo. While Ashley (on right) likes to dress in stream lined neutrals with pops of color, Mary-Kate embraces the more risky looks of fashion. This design duo strutted their fashion genius in their own designer label, The Row. Taking this year trends like the fur jacket, Harlequin print and oversized everything, Mary-Kate and Ashley truly think outside of the box. It's never a boring day when these two are on the red carpet! Gossip Girl here, who became a gossip worthy style star in 2009? That would be the chic and sexy Blake Lively. Over the past year she has had many red carpet shining moments but she started out the year in one of her best, at the Oscars. In this stunning red Versace gown, Ms. Lively manages to look both youthful and sultry all at the same time. With a thigh high slit, deep plunging neckline and to die for nude pumps, Blake takes a leaf out of Serena Van der Woodsen's book. But by pulling her hair back into a slick trendy braid, she is still all her own.

In the approaching winter winds we fashionistas struggle to look trendy and keep warm at the same time, especially when having to walk around campus all day. The simplest solution? Tights! You don't have to put away those summer time skirts, shorts and dresses because by adding a pair of tights to your outfit, it automatically makes it winter ready.
The fashion world has been taking notice for now there are so many kinds of tights to choose from: knits, colored, opaque you name it. But the one trend that has been hitting the recent runways is the patterned tight. Every designer from Chanel (pictured above) to Marni has been sporting these trendy tights in their runway shows.
Jazz up your look with polka dot tights from Forever21 ($5.80), diamond tights from Urbanoutfitters ($14), or argyle ones from TopShop ($16). You can even splurge a little on a great pair of lace tights by Free People ($28). Patterned tights are fun, functional, and most of all fashionable. Now it's possible to keep warm this winter while still looking stylish!

Barbie pink walls, an Audrey Hepburn portrait straight from Breakfast at Tiffany's, and shelves upon shelves of sparkling objects, just waiting to be worn. While this may describe every glamour girl's dream room, it in fact belongs to jewelry designer Pamela Kucera of Royersford, Pa. Her studio has been home to her jewelry line, Penelope and Anastasia, since 2004.
Another thing all of us ladies have in common with Kucera? A love for expensive jewelry. Through her many shopping journeys, she realized she could make pieces she loves all on her own at a fraction of the price. And just like that Penelope and Anastasia was born. The company is named in honor of her mother and sister. When Pamela and her sister, Andrea, were younger, their mother would tell them stories of bad little girls Penelope (after Pamela) and Anastasia (after Andrea) and what would happen when they misbehaved.
Completely self-taught, Kucera's love for vintage shines through in all she does. She spends every Saturday morning "thrifting" with her Mom and Sis at consignment shops and yard sales. This is where she finds her beautiful vintage pieces that she then reworks into something new. Her tips for shopping such venues? Don't go with a list of things you are looking for and keep an open mind.
While Pamela does love making the old new again, most of her favorite requests are custom orders, specifically for weddings. Whether you're a bride-to-be or a picky vintage shopper, you can make an appointment to visit the workroom and help create a piece with your fingerprint all over it.
Pamela's newest venture? Stained glass. She recently took a class in which she made a window design and has since used the technique in her jewelry, soldering and cutting away. While she loves the creative freedom of it, it is very time-consuming. I can only imagine the beautiful pieces that are to come!
Penelope and Anastasia can be found at VIX and The Slingluff Gallery in Philadelphia. These shops are definitely worth checking out for anyone who loves one-of-a-kind vintage inspired pieces on a college (or any) budget! But be sure to spread the word to those not in the greater Philadelphia area! You can also shop Kucera's Etsy shop online at www.PenelopeAndAnastasia.etsy.com.

(R-L): Samantha Cowley (Executive Editor) in Bagdley Mischka, Jessica Lapidos (Editor-In-Chief) in Alice and Olivia, dresses from renttherunway.com.
It was a Friday night; I walked into a room filled with luxurious gold fabrics draped in every corner, lights creating an elegant ambiance, and women dressed in the latest styles the runway had to offer. That night, I was at an exclusive event where local Delaware fashionistas gathered: the UDress Fashion Event. The first person that walked by me was wearing a beautiful strapless black organza dress with an intricate origami neckline. Before I could even ask, I remembered where I had seen it before - New York Fashion Week. I inquired where she had found such a stunning dress, and she replied, “Rent the Runway.”
Rent the Runway is an exclusive member-only company that is based online. It enables fashionable women to finally be able to afford runway dresses that we could previously only dream about. You can rent dresses from designers such as Badgley Mischka, Brian Reyes, Diane von Furstenberg, Tibi, Giambattista Valli and many others for 10% of the price!
After you pick the dress you desire, it’s a simple process. The company sends you two sizes in garment bags and a convenient “fit kit” to ensure a personalized fit. You can keep the dress for either four or eight days and when it’s time to ship it back, they give you a pre-stamped envelope so all you have to do is put it in any mail box! If you have any questions about sizing or the perfect dress for your figure, Rent the Runway has a team of stylists waiting by phones to answer your questions. For your next event, be the envy of the night and log in to RenttheRunway.com and solve all of your “I have nothing to wear” problems.
