It's easy to get lost in the crowd mentality. But you always hear people say that it's bad to fit in. Don't be run of the mill. Don't be a bland blade of wheat in a wheat field or a useless drop of water in the ocean. Be a rare pearl. Be a diamond. Be an unusual tropical flower or an endangered animal instead. But what does this mean?
As far as fashion goes, this means standing out. Do something unique. Change things up. Set the mood, don't let the mood set you. Walk down the street and wear something so bold and sensational that everyone's eyes will have no choice but to follow your every step as they think to themselves: "why didn't I think of that?" Still not feeling it? Trust me, it's easy...especially with today's fashion market. Do you know how many diverse apparel options are available right now? And that being "different" fashionably anyway is considered something to be admired and respected. Look at Karlie Kloss, world famous supermodel at nineteen. In just four pictures, she takes you from a timeless beach look reminiscent of the 1950s to casual plaid and jeans straight from the 1990s to a classic 1940s business suit ensemble that also pays homage to the 1980s with the enormously large hair and finally to a shimmery flirty sequin-covered bodice mirroring the more risqué side of things. This summer, don't feel confined to any particular one look. There are so many different styles and trends on the market now. Summer is a time to explore new things and take risks, and why not start this with your wardrobe?

We all know spring is a season of bright colors. This is also true of trendy nail polish. This spring is a little different-it’s not all about only bright or pastel colors. Here are a few new tricks for painting style onto your nails.
Different Designs
There are new at-home manicures that drug stores are now carrying with designs that even salons can’t implement. Floral, cheetah and zigzag are surely in for spring. Sally Hansen has a line that is a quick dry process and is done in minutes.

Matte Finish
A matte finish on nails was first seen on the runways and is now making its way to drug stores for everyone to try. Matte polish is a specific kind of polish bought and applied just like regular nail polish, but dries without a shine.

Pinks and Purples
Pink and purple are staple colors every girl should have in their nail polish collection. This spring, try colors like fuchsia, lilac, and bubble gum pink. They are sure to stand out and are perfect for the season!

Spring and summer are all about the sun. Think about it. When deciding what to wear for the day, you'll look outside and see if it's sunny. If it's sunny, you'll most likely pick an outfit more suited to warm weather, and you wouldn't be caught dead without your sunglasses. Although sunglasses are definitely helpful as they shade your eyes from the sun while adding a major glam status to your look, there is a way to increase both your style and your sun protection: hats.
My favorite hat this season has to be the straw fedora. Trendy for both men and women to wear, this hat is the complete package. It has neutral coloring which makes it easy to pair with any outfit, and its lightweight feel makes it easy to wear around all day. The look is super summery and adding it to any ensemble, from a floral shirt and jeans outfit to your bikini, will give you instant trendiness. |

Even though the temperature outside may be getting warmer, sometimes it's hard to switch into the springish mood as fast as the weather with thoughts of dense heavy coats, boots, and cold hands still so fresh in your head. And with the inside of your dorm and other buildings being usually colder than outside it's hard to feel like it's spring for most of the day. Here are some things you can do to get yourself into the spring spirit:
Buy a fresh smelling air freshener for your dorm. Buy some construction paper and cut out flowers or springish images in bright pastel colors and put them around your dorm. Buy some new sunglasses. Try a new fresh new perfume. (I am currently obsessed with Juicy Couture Original, Coach Poppy, Ralph by Ralph Lauren, and Daisy by Marc Jacobs.) Paint your nails fun spring colors like crocus yellow or tulip red. Get a houseplant for your room. Start wearing brighter colors. Lighten up your diet with fresh crispy salads. Leave your window open. Ask your friend to exchange spring playlists composed of both your favorite songs. Do your homework outside. |

Now that summer is soon approaching, it is important to dress with style to feel our best. Adding a bit of color to our daily wardrobe will do wonders to our outfits every day. Each and every color says something different about the way we feel.
Black: Black is a color that may scream “depressed,” but black will never go out of fashion. Whether you’re having a rough day or not, it’s a great color choice to make.
White: White is a great color for spring and summer. It is lively and simple, a great way to show off your girly side.
Red: Red is an empowering color. It’s a perfect color to make a bold statement and show feelings of ambition.
Pink: Pink is soothing and easy on the eyes. Pink should be worn with caution-too much may seem childish but just the right amount adds the perfect feminine touch to any outfit.
Yellow: Yellow is a daring choice, but it is perfect for a sunshine affect on others and expresses feelings of excitement. |

Bold, bright colors are currently sweeping the nation, a trend commonly referred to as color blocking. Try out this fun and fabulous look by making a powerful statement with color combinations in your own wardrobe! Follow these tips and make it your own. This truly is a carefree fashion where you can let go and shine.
1. The more color, the better: Don’t be afraid to add lots of different colors. Don’t feel limited to one or two!
2. Mix & Match: Either pair up color combinations or keep a few similar ones and repeat them!
3. Keep it interesting: Whether you want to wear all dark tones with a pop of bright color, or look bright all over, the possibilities are endless!
4. Put your best foot forward: Rock these fabulous color block shoes with a colorful outfit or a simple black outfit to really make a statement!
Be brave and beautiful this spring with fierce and fearless colors! Always remember – fashion is what you make it to be, and dress to be you!

Keeping with Yara Flinn's tough girl style, models walked the runway last Wednesday night wearing socks paired with black heels and slicked back ponytails. The NOMIA Fall 2012 collection featured nude, black, navy, and sage pieces with surprising pops of cobalt and fuchsia.
Flinn, who made her fashion week debut in spring 2010, took inspiration from artist Dan Flavin's fluorescent light fixtures. She added chic hints of neon by using sashes and insets of color, making her pieces a work of art themselves.
Her signature draping could also be seen throughout the ready-to-wear collection that consisted of some great dresses with asymmetrical hemlines. My personal favorite was a nude and black floor length dress with a sash of cobalt blue across the hip! |

Spring may seem far away for most of us trying to get over the winter blues, but don’t worry-there’s hope! Handbag trends for the spring season are already popping up. Brown seems to be the “it” color and its popularity is on the rise. Michael Kors is doing a great collection of different shades of brown to offset the main color of the bag. Another aspect of the new spring bag is that it is carried on the arm, not shoulder. Also, it looks like retailers have found brown to be the color of the season for not only handbags but also other accessories such as boots, scarves and even leather jackets. Brown is not too bold, yet it is different and it can work for anyone. It looks like this upcoming season brown may be the new black!

It’s simple to wear and, depending on your preference, inexpensive too. Between the following assortment of lipsticks and glosses, it’s impossible to not look ravishing. Tried and true, these products really are a girl’s best friend. So if you’re looking to change up your look, give one of these products a try!
MAC has some great lipstick hues. If you want a sultry look try Media, or for a brighter shade, Lickable. Your local store also has some great buys, like Revlon’s Pink About It ($9) or a variety of Wet n Wild shades at only 3 dollars each. With so many options you really can’t go wrong!
A lip-gloss rich in color can be hard to find, but NARS never disappoints. From peachy shades like Turkish Delight to hot pinks such as Easy Lover, there are so many possibilities. If you’re looking for a wallet-friendly purchase, Covergirl Wetslicks lip-gloss in Peaches and Gleam is a personal favorite.
No matter what product you decide to try, remember to wear a smile! As Audrey Hepburn once said, “I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.” |

When people think of February, they envision romantic endeavors, chocolates and candies, flowers and more, seemingly making February a month of love. However, for those of us without valentines, it is certainly still possibly to take the passion of February and incorporate it into the way we dress!
1. Lovely Lace – Lace is a timeless pattern that can be worn in countless ways. It is found in dress form, shorts, tops, hairpieces, and even purses and shoes. A touch of lace adds a touch of class to any ensemble!
2. Romantic Reds – Red is a bold color certain to make a statement no matter how it is worn. Red is also associated with passion and affection, truly making this color great for Valentine’s Day.
3. Playful Pinks- Standing for the soft and delicate side of love, pink is a classic color bound to look great on any girl!

Take a cue from the glamour of love throughout the ages and channel it into your clothing this month. Always remember – fashion is what you make it to be, and dress to be you! |
