Fire red leaves, crisp cool breezes, and rich indigo blue skies make Fall my favorite season. However, it has one downfall: the weather isn’t too ideal for tanning. I’m not going to opt for the tanning salon, although their coconut scent and tropical Hawaiian aura is tempting to any girl craving a sun-kissed glow. As a freshman, I went tanning at a salon every day and got perfectly bronzed. But after reading numerous articles explaining that tanning is a direct cause of skin cancer, I immediately went to an alternative: tanning lotions and sprays.

Desperate for darker skin and a Jennifer Lopez sheen that seemed to only belong to a goddess, I bought and tried almost every orange and brown bottle on the shelves at my local CVS. One stood out to me above all the rest. It worked instantly, absorbed deeply, and made my skin sparkle with golden glitter. Introducing my best friend in a bottle: L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion.

The Sublime Bronze collection features a variety of lotions and tanning mists that last anywhere from a day to a few weeks. My personal favorite is the Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion because it provides you with a quick tan that lasts longer than a few days, especially with continued daily use.

I have a medium skin tone, so I can use the lotion directly out of the bottle but I recommend that those with fair skin combine the bronzer with a plain moisturizing lotion to dilute the intense bronze tint. The one downfall of this product is its tendency to streak. Using lotion with it usually decreases the probability, but even so, washing hands after application is a must.

A bronze body awaits you so have no fear, because it is not just for summer but the entire year!

Carlos Alonso is no stranger to style.  This California bred baseball player was  featured as a stylish student athlete in UDress Spring 2010.  Recently, Alonso has bid farewell to the University of Delaware (baseball field), after being drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies.  Alonso took a moment to answer some questions about his new career and his style.

How did it feel when you found out you'd been drafted by the Phillies?
I was very excited to be drafted by any team, but it was especially cool to be drafted by the Phillies.  For the past two years, I've been watching them on TV, and I've seen how passionate the [Phillies] fans are.

When did you start playing baseball?
I started playing baseball when I was five years old, in Round Rock, Texas.

When did you know you wanted to go pro?
I knew I wanted to play professionally after my first year at a junior college in Santa Barbara, California.

What was your best memory of playing at UD?
My best memory of playing at UD was just the interaction with coaches and players.  [Also,] the CAA tourney two years ago.

What are you going to miss the most about UD?
I will miss my friends and coaches the most.

How did it feel to be named one of UD's most stylish athletes in UDress Spring 2010?
I was honored to be named a stylish athlete, because I feel I have a unique style, and it's always cool to be recognized for it.

Off of the field, what is your favorite thing to wear?
I like to wear sandals, shorts and a cut off shirt.

Is there anything you do or would do to make your uniform more personal?
I like to wear three quarter length sleeves with red wrist bands.

Thoughts on the Phillies uniform?
The Phillies [have the] best uniforms!

5 Ways To Be Summertime Hot PDF Print E-mail
Lowdown On Your Upkeep - Lowdown On Your Upkeep

Ashen skin, under eye circles, chipped toenails...sounds like fall is in full force. The hardest part of starting the school year is watching summertime fade. So hold on to the golden days and bring the heat to Main Street with these sizzling suggestions.

1.
Glow on
Warm weather and physical activity give an irresistible liveliness. To maintain, hit the Little Bob and keep a diligent exercise routine.  Purchase a self-tanning moisturizer from Happy Harry's and apply daily. We love Jergens natural glow; at $8.99 per bottle it's an affordable way to glow on. Make sure that you take extra special care of your skin during this time: exfoliate weekly, remove your makeup nightly, and wash thoroughly with a gentle cleanser. Maintenance is key, as decreased sunlight can lead to sudden breakout. When you need an extra pick-me-up, dust your cheekbones with a touch of shimmering bronzer.

2. Tousle those tresses
Get beach hair (sans beach) while you sleep! Using a conditioning mousse, comb product throughout your hair, scrunch, and rest. In the morning, transform your waves from bed head to surfer girl in a snap. Use a midsized curling iron to create loose, messy curls scattered throughout, starting from root to end. Hair that isn't just washed will hold better (and it's more convincing). Spritz with a little salt water and you'll feel like you stepped right off Dewey beach.

3. Ice Ice Baby
Never underestimate the power of a tall iced beverage. Carrying an extra large Café Americano from Brew HaHa will transport you right back to warmer times. Tealicious and Central Perk are some other beverage shops that stay icey cool year round.

4. SPF it up
Even when it's not sunny out, a cloudy day in Newark can get you seriously scorched. Apply SPF 15 daily to maintain supple, healthy skin. As an added bonus you'll probably smell like coconuts, an instant sun-shiney throwback.

5. Create your oasis
The blue hens may have closed the book on summer, but you can still keep the fire alive in your abode. Hang a hammock in the corner of your dorm for a year-round chillout spot. Baby bonsai from Main Street Florists are fun and friendly plants that are easy to maintain. Load up your iTunes with summer jams that'll keep you rockin' all year long. As long as you keep the carefree spirit of summertime with you, winter doldrums won't dare knock at your door.
