Many artists across Hollywood are known for being fashionable. Fancy cars, expensive handbags, red-bottom stilettos, and even smaller accessories: sunglasses. There are a few beloved artists that are commonly known for their sunglasses, and we may not even realize it.
Someone who may be best known for wearing sunglasses is pop-singer Elton John. The pop-star of the seventies wore the most unique and eccentric pairs during photoshoots, performances, and press conferences, in a variety of colors and frames. Fans say that Elton began the bold sunglasses trend because of his original style, which had never been seen or worn before. Elton was recognized for wearing sunglasses with attachments to their frames, including wires, rhinestones, and even feathers. In the first photo, the pair that he is wearing during one of his performances appears to be a normal pair of thick-framed circle sunglasses. If you look closely, the frames have circle-shaped silver wires attached. Elton was also often seen wearing sunglasses with different colored lenses, mostly pink and orange. His most classic pair can be seen in the second picture. Large, orange, bug-like lenses with a thick frame encrusted with rhinestones. It doesn’t get more Rocket Man than that.
While Elton John is known for his wide variety of sunglasses, Lady Gaga’s iconic sunglass choices are linked to the more recent Gaga era. Gaga has made herself into not only a beloved singer of the late 2000s, but also a fashion icon. She is known around the world for her frequent style changes in all areas of her life, her sunglass choices included. Fans associate the modern-pop-singer’s sunglasses with certain hit songs, albums, and music videos. In the first picture, she is wearing a very familiar pair of Gaga shades during one of her performances. These sunglasses can be associated with her first album released in 2008 The Fame, likely because they are the same pair that she is wearing on the album cover. The popstar’s other famous sunglasses were featured in the iconic “Telephone” music video, one of the most-watched music videos in music history. Gaga filtered through a variety of looks in the video, but the one that she is known most for is a sleek, white silk strapless dress accompanied with black sleeves, a leather black glove with just the fingers, and the famous pair of small circle sunglasses with a thin black frame.
Sunglasses are a fashion statement that can make or break a certain look, but they are often overlooked as a necessity for certain eye diseases and conditions. Irish singer-songwriter and U2 lead singer Bono is known for wearing sunglasses with different colored opaque lenses, but not for reasons that we think. These opaque sunglass lenses are to block any light that can cause sensitivity to the eyes of people with glaucoma, such as Bono. This condition has the potential to cause blindness in the people that have it, but opaque colored glasses can block any harmful light. Bono is seen wearing these classes at all times. I mean literally all the time: from performances, to interviews, and even grocery shopping. His most famous pairs are in the two pictures shown, the pink futuristic-looking shades and the small circular purple shades with a thin silver frame.
